The Dark Side of the Perfect Character: Giving Professional Men Their Secrets

I’ve always found it interesting how we look at successful men. We see the careers, the accomplishments, the confidence… and we think we know who they are. But what happens when there’s another side to the story?

Let me back track a minute here though… yes, my husband is a successful man, and no… he has zero crazy obsessions. That, my friends, is where the storyteller in me steps forward!

In Those Wicked Lines, I wanted to explore the idea through Cashon Line, a famous football player who seems to have it all. He’s successful, admired, and used to being in the spotlight… but there’s more to Cashon than what people.

I love creating characters who aren’t quite what you’d expect. The kind of men who seem to have everything figured out but have a private side that makes you stop and think, Wait… what?

Cashon has a dark collection, and naturally, it makes you curious. Why does he have it? What does it mean to him? There’s more to him than meets the eye, and I love letting readers discover those layers as the story unfolds.

As a writer, I find those contradictions fascinating. People aren’t always who we assume they are, and I don’t think my characters should be any different. I don’t want them to be predictable. I want readers to look beyond the surface and discover what makes them tick.

Cashon was so interesting to write. He’s a man with a public image to protect, but what happens when the person behind that image doesn’t fit everyone’s expectations?

Would people see him differently if they knew his secrets? Would they judge him, or would they want to understand him?

Those are the kinds of questions I love exploring through fiction.

I don’t want to write perfect men. I want to write interesting ones… the kind who make you curious and keep you turning the pages because you need to know what they’re hiding. After all, the spotlight only shows us so much. Sometimes, the most interesting parts of a person are the ones nobody else gets to see.
